Pathlight is currently seeking a care provider (can be a couple) in Pittsfield to share their home with a man we’ll call “R.” for now. R. has been described as “a nice gentleman” and is very independent. He can be alone safely at home and in the community, uses a cell phone, and only needs minor prompts and reminders for his daily tasks and hygiene routines. While he could take public transportation if needed, his first and favorite commuting method of choice is walking. It is not unusual to see him on his way to his favorite coffee shop, Dotties, or other spots around town.

During the week, R. spends a lot of time working on his personal and professional goals. He gave up drinking 2 years ago and has really loved attending his A.A. meetings. He is very good about being punctual to them and will often go at least 3 times a week. R. also goes to Berkshire Vocational Services for job coaching and is actively looking for employment. When he has down time, R. enjoys watching football, baseball, basketball, and hockey games – a true sports enthusiast!

As R. already has many established community connections and places he likes to frequent in town, we are currently ONLY looking for his new home in the Pittsfield area. In addition to logistics, it’s also important to note that although he is fine with pets, he would prefer living in a house without children.

Ideal candidates would have skills in working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (though not required), be a good communicator, and be able to establish clear and consistent routines. An open heart, reliability, patience, and flexibility are required.
